So. The US just elected their new President. Almost all the webcomics i follow had a special on it.
My favourite:
:D
CHANGE FTW! I mean, that was really all he was selling right?
I acknowledge that Obama's win is historic, in both the fact that he's the nation's first black president, but also in how he has rallied the nation to turn up at voting booths in record numbers (in order to support him as democrats or seeing the need to raise their objection as republicans). I might add that he's a fantastic public speaker too. His victory speech reminded me of Martin Jr. King's legendary one.
Clearly he is the charismatic leader that the nation is looking for to turn their bad situation around. A saviour even, to bring miracles and save America. I find, however, that the promises he made (okay so do all other political candidates) are going to be practically impossible to accomplish. And I wonder what America is going to say a few months into his office when the change doesn't happen. Change takes time and people don't see it. It doesn't help that the election campaigns don't make that clear and just say what the people want to hear.
And well, I have to admit that I thought the world would end under Obama. That still remains to be seen. But thankfully, I think that China is taking over "Ruler of the World" position, so the world may not spontaneously combust or implode after all. (Cue long Chinese pro-China speech which I have no time to write now.)
The part of my brain that thinks in Chinese is about 20x slower than the side that thinks in English. 英(great! now I've taken to naming parts of my mind) isn't very patient either. while 华 is desperately digging around for the appropriate vocabulary, 英 waits around going "just type in English already". ):
Also, it feels like my brain is at a current capacity where using Chinese would cause my English to deteriorate. I take longer to express my thoughts now. rar. I've really got to work at improving both at the same time, or it's not going to do any good.
PS. (no, this no longer counts) I find that when I read Chinese, I tend to skip over words, pick out the ones I recognise and piece together what the passage roughly means. I don't even know how to read some out loud, but I know what it means. :X And still, my facebook is set to 中文(简体)。haha. GAMBARE! no, that should be: 加油!!! :D
I've decided that since I'm doing two courses on China this term, I'm going to work harder at immersing myself by:
我要多用华语来沟通!and that includes blogging. Which I have just discovered to be really hard! Two years of not working on my already sub-standard Chinese = NOT GOOD.
